Practically every single person on the planet dreads the day they start noticing fine lines and wrinkles appearing on their face. Of course, as we all know, none of us can stay young forever, and lines and wrinkles are simply an inevitable part of the natural aging process. We can’t stop this from happening, no matter how hard we try, but we can certainly slow things down a bit.
Companies that manufacture skincare products will tell you anything in order to persuade you to buy their products. In fact, they spend millions, if not billions of dollars to achieve their “brainwashing” goals. As we all know, just about every new cream or lotion is advertised as being the best anti aging serum. When we try them however, we soon realize they are no better than the last product we tried.
Instead of paying so much attention to adverts, let’s look at a few scientific facts regarding skincare products.
The Great Collagen Myth
I would not even think about saying that collagen does not play a crucial role when it comes to skin, but the cosmetics industry has been less than honest with consumers. In short, they have slowly but surely convinced people that creams and lotions containing collagen are more effective than those that don’t contain any collagen.
SCIENTIFIC FACT: Collagen is incredibly important as far as skin is concerned, but collagen which is added to creams and lotions is of no use at all because on a molecular level, collagen cannot penetrate deep enough to make a difference. Collagen dietary supplements are no better either.
If you can increase your body’s rate of collagen production, then you are onto a winner. Unfortunately, very few anti aging creams contain ingredients which are capable of stimulating natural collagen production.
The Great Mineral Oil Myth
Let’s face it: practically all creams and lotions contain mineral oil these days. Mineral oil helps to stop one’s skin from drying out, by preventing loss of moisture. Adding the word “mineral” behind the word “oil” automatically makes us think it’s some or other beneficial type of oil.
SCIENTIFIC FACT: The vast majority of big name products contain a mineral oil which is nothing more than a by-product of the oil and gas industry. It is cheap and readily available, and it DOES NOT benefit your skin in any way. In a nutshell, if a serum contains this kind of mineral oil, then you can bet your life on the fact that it’s not the best anti aging serum.
There are several natural ingredients which can be used instead of common mineral oil. They do cost more, but they are a lot safer to use on your skin, and they also do a far better job.
