Ever since the holidays arrived, my skin has been breaking out, and is flaky, and dull. What is going on? I’m sure there are a few saints out there, and we love them, but most of us have some holiday health challenges. We eat more, drink too much, get less exercise, and fall away from some of our good habits.
Since our skin is an organ like any other organ, it suffers too. Our skin is a reflection of what’s going on inside us. The great thing about skin, unlike any other organ except the eyes, is that it’s visible to us! We can get a sense of how our body is doing through our skin. It’s like a barometer.
How to detox and rehydrate ….without going on a meditation retreat
First, set aside 15 minutes and take honest stock of what you’ve been doing the past 3-7 days.
Coffee, alcohol, and being busy are all dehydrating. So make a pact with yourself to drink 4-8 oz water every hour for 8 of your next waking hours.
In the morning, limit coffee to one cup and then switch to green tea.
Eat a gentle breakfast. Even if you don’t feel like eating, you’ll feel better all day. Consider oatmeal, bananas (lots of potassium), and/or a protein smoothy or shake.
Stock up on organic fresh juices, kombucha, and medicinal caffeine-free teas. Traditional Medicinals makes a great one called EveryDay Detox in lemon.
If you have a sweet tooth and the office is full of junky sweets, try finding something small that you love, that feels like a treat that you can eat instead. For me, it’s a few (okay maybe more than a few 😉 ) squares of dark chocolate.
Try upping your protein intake, taking a stress complex B vitamin, and increasing your vitamin C to 1,000 mg ……for the next week or two.
If you do even a couple of the above, your body will thank you!
I don’t know about you, but I feel a lot better getting back on track, and I respect myself more when I do.
