Daman is a city in Daman and Diu which is a union territory of India. Included in the Republic of India in the year 1961, the place was under the reign of Portuguese for more than 400 years. Portuguese took over the control of the region in 1539, a few years after the arrival of the first Portuguese ship on Daman port.
